In its last working days, the Ministry of Environment and Water might complete the procedure for changing of the Management Plan of Pirin National Park and bring it to the Council of Ministers. The decision can be passed by the still acting government or by a caretaker cabinet.
The Environment Minister Nona Karadzhova is going to sign the decision of the Supreme Expert Environmental Council from 19 February at any cost. That is the only way she will not be held personally responsible by the next government for the two ski lifts from 2010 in the Bansko ski zone, even though she had given permission for them in breach of the Pirin National Park Management Plan.
The decision from 19 February 2013 legitimizes the illegal constructions in the tourist zone. Constructions would now be allowed in this zone.
WE HAVE TO CONTINUE OUR DEMONSTRATIONS AND NOT LET THIS HAPPEN! So join us on Thursday, 21 February, at 6:30 pm at Nezavisimost Square (in front of the former Partien Dom). Bring posters!
At the moment, it may seem that the taking over Pirin National Park is just an isolated problem, but it is not!
The problems that have been evolving in Bansko for the past 13 years: constructions in a national park, which happens to be part of Natura 2000 and of UNESCO World Natural Heritage, as well as the breach of laws in favor of one oligarch and his monopoly in the mountain, all these symbolize what Bulgaria does not want to be and should not be.
Pirin in danger!
