22.11.2007 Next last decision of the Council of Ministers for establishment of NATURA 2000?

A group of young people who are volunteers of “For the Nature” campaign are protesting every Thursday since March 2007 in front of the building where the Council of Ministers is taking decisions. The aim of this actions is to remind the Ministers that they have to take a decision about NATURA 2000 and that the protection of nature is a questin of great public interest. On 22.11.2007 it was expected that the Council of Ministers will vote for a last time on NATURA 2000. In the last moment this item was not included in the program for the day.
The action was dedicated to saving of Rila because it was the last chance of it to be included into NATURA 2000 network. The participants in the action were dressed strangely: men as women and women as men because they wanted to show the absurd situation in which the future of Bulgaria is engaged. They insisted on 2 things:
- the whole of Rila Mountains to be included in the NATURA 2000 network
- in the decision about NATURA 2000 to be absent a point saying that accepted management plans will be authomatically excluded from NATURA 2000 area.
Unfortunately, on 29.11.2007 council of Ministers decided NOT to include Rila (buffer) into NATURA 2000 in Bulgaria. They also left the point about management plans and in this way made NATURA 2000 network be present only on paper. All of the places of investment interest will one by one be included in the building part of the management plans on municipalities.
