Over 40 Bulgarian municipalities, together with institutions and landmark buildings have already vowed participation and support of Earth Hour. In 2013, 103 towns took part in this event by switching off lights, by processions, competitions and light shows.
Earth Hour’s goals for 2014 are personal engagement in environment protection, local activities aiming at responsibility for nature. WWF’s message is “Use your strength to change the world!”, which is used to define and popularize thousands of projects on all continents – from saving leopards in Russia, through forest protection and support for local communities in Madagascar, to donation collection for traditional fishing communities in the Philippines in order to continue sustainable use of sea resources.
This year WWF has its first ambassador-superhero of Earth Hour – Spider-Man. The whole team of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 movie is behind the campaign with their personal example of nature protection and with direct help for green projects in China, Indonesia and Nepal. And during shooting the movie and its marketing tour, special efforts were made to save resources and not to contaminate the environment.
Sony Pictures Entertainment, the studio behind this production, and their partner in Bulgaria – Alexandra Films, also support Earth Hour. That is why on March 29 Arena movie theater, together with WWF Bulgaria, will give the opportunity to more nature lovers in Bulgaria to give their proposals for environment protection.
