Poachers’ net killed another rare bird species in the Vaya Lake
Thanks to that signal at place arrived representatives of the Association of Environmental NGOs, hunting and fishing societies and sport fishing clubs in Burgas, a resident of Dolno Ezerovo and inspectors of the National Agency for Fisheries and Aquaculture, entered the pond with a boat and pulled out the poachers’ net with a length of 10-15 meters. In it, besides the perished bird, they found another protected species - entangled European pond turtle, which fortunately was alive and was returned to the lake.

This is one of the first documented cases of death of Ferruginous Duck in poachers' nets, although this threat is one of the indicated type in the recently adopted Action Plan for the Conservation of the Ferruginous Duck by the Ministry of Environment and Water. This document also sets out the measures to be taken and implemented to reduce or completely eliminate this threat, such as to comply strictly with the ban on fishing with nets in all inland waters in the country under the Fisheries and aquaculture Act.

Ferruginous Duck is extremely rare species in our nature. It is rare luck to be seen in Vaya Lake or protected area "Poda". The species is treathened with extinction in the world, because of the reduction of places used for feeding and preferred for reproduction. In the lakes of Burgas, Ferruginous Duck not only stops for rest and nutrition during migrations, but several pairs have choosen them for a comfortable home.

Recently birds found dead became more frequent event, as a result of their entanglement in poachers' nets set in Vaya Lake and Mandra Dam. We are reminding that recently was killed a great crested grebe, and another was released by the nets, and shortly before this case a whole family great crested grebes died - adult bird with two yang ones.

It turns out that this is a serious threat to the existence of many rare and endangered birds in the world.
