Participate in the 11th edition of the Danube Art Master competition: an ambitious contest that brings together children and youth from 14 countries in the Danube region. Since 2004, the diversity of artworks competing in this contest has reflected the bounty and beauty of the Danube watershed.
Once again this year all students and education establishments are invited to participate in the traditional competition, dedicated to the Danube, by creating artwork inspired by nature, cultural heritage and the variety of human activities in its watershed.
About the competition:
The Danube Art Master 2014 challenge is open to all aged 6 to 16. They must produce an “ecological” artwork, inspired by the majestic Danube river, her tributaries and inhabitants. The competition is held by the International Commission for the Protection of the Danube River (ICPDR) and the Global Water Partnership Central and Eastern Europe (GWP CEE). The competition aims to inspire young artists to visit the riverbanks of the Danube or its tributaries near their homes. To seek inspiration in their hometown’s surrounding environment, to evaluate what it means to them and reflect and formulate a vision for the watershed and its inhabitants. The competition’s goal is to motivate children and youth to specific actions, that each of them could take to protect rivers, river ecosystems, and their biodiversity.
This year the competition is again part of the celebration of Danube Day 2014. We are still moved by the complex relationships in the Danube watershed, which is home to its inhabitants – fish, birds, insects, mammals, as well as to us – humans. Our appeal to you is: Get active for a living Danube!
The competition takes part in two stages: national and international. The national winner will represent Bulgaria in the international round for the prize Danube Art Master 2014. The author of the best artwork among national winners in the 14 Danube countries participating in the competition will be crowned Danube Art Master 2014.
Competition rules:
Join your friends and fellow students to enter the international initiative dedicated to the Danube and show your concern for rivers, their facilities and inhabitants. Take a walk down the Danube’s banks or along its tributaries near your home town. The point is to be inspired by what surrounds you, using materials collected from the river banks to create a unique artwork. These can be sculptures, mosaics or collages composed of various materials, such as branches, rocks, mud, straw, even rubbish strewn around the river. Preferably, the artwork will be created on site on the river bank.
Drawings on paper, walls, pavement, or other surfaces will not be allowed entry into the competition.
How to enter:
Take a color photograph of your artwork with a film or digital camera. Print the photograph in 15x20 cm format or larger, on glossy or matte paper and mail it to 1142 Sofia, Evlogi and Hristo Georgievi Boulevard 93, floor 1 ap. 1, c/o Center for Environmental Information and Education; or e-mail the photograph (minimum size 1 MB in JPEG format) to the organization at ceie@ceie.org .
The submission deadline is July 20, 2014 (attested by post mark).
The author of the best artwork will compete for the international title Danube Art Master. Entries can be individual as well as team efforts.
Competition rules:
A jury commission makes the final determination of the winner. Outstanding artworks will be selected and the authors announced at the end of July and contacted via their submitted address/phone or e-mail address. The results will be announced on the organizers’ website: www.ceie.org . No further written communication relating to the competition is anticipated. The award may not be exchanged, nor its monetary value paid out. Anyone aged 6 to 16 in 2014 may enter the competition. Employees of ICPDR, GWP CEE and CEIE and their family members are not allowed to enter the competition. Drawing and paintings on a surface of any type will not be allowed entry. By submitting artworks to the competition, the authors give their permission for their names to be published on web page of the organizer and the official web page of Danube Day, as well as to be used in information campaigns by ICPDR and GWP CEE.
