The youths together listened to lectures for the nature of Strandja Mountain which is common for both countries, participated in games for team building and learnt how to recognize the plant and animal species. As a part of the exchange a visit of a school in the town of Demirkioy was organized where the Bulgarian youths get acquainted with the learning environment and customs of our neighbours.
Practical exercises on ecology as acquaintance with an underground ecosystem in the Dupnitsa cave and bird watch in the salt lake Mert nearby Ineada supplemented the pupils’ experience.
For the better acquaintance of the two cultures traditional evenings were organized where the youths presented characteristic customs, music, dances and foods from their homeland.
The green activities are part of the project “Joint conservation of the region of Strandja for sustainable development”, implemented by “Green Balkans – branch Pomorie” with partnership with the Turkish environmental organization DAYKO and “Europe and us” Association.
The project “Joint conservation of the region of Strandja for sustainable development” is aimed at improving life quality via more efficient usage of the common natural resources, highlighting the attractiveness of Strandja as a tourism site, fostering the preservation of biodiversity and the common natural resources and reducing the negative anthropogenic influence on the environment.
The duration of the project is 12 months and is implemented by DAYKO – Foundation for nature conservation, Turkey with partnership with the “Europe and us” Association – Pomorie and “Green Balkans – branch Pomorie”.
The project is funded by the EU by means of the Transborder cooperation programme under the IPP Bulgaria – Turkey CCI number 2007CB16IPO008.
