It has become apparent that threats have been made over the phone by an unknown individual against a representative of the ‘The Greens’ Party.
The coalition ‘For the nature’ is appealing to government institutions for an expeditious and complete investigation, as nobody has the right to make such threats, seeking to impede the work of civic organisations in such a way, in a democratic society.
The systematic abuse against employees at nature conservation NGOs started a few months ago. The threats against them have been made on their work phone lines, against them in a professional capacity. Nature conservationists have highlighted that this is a punishable act in accordance with the Criminal Code.
What did the threats from last week comprise?
The unknown individual who made the threats introduced himself with full details of his name and position. It became apparent that he is linked to Bansko Ski zone in Pirin National Park.
The person called repeatedly and stubbornly until he got through to the people he was aiming to threaten.
In his conversations he quoted details, company names and names of people. He also stated that he had already been involved in ‘the planning of the new ski slope’. He hinted at having political protection. Officially the Government denies having introduced a proposal or having allowed the construction of a new ski slope within Pirin National Park.
The hints in this conversation about having political protection are especially disturbing just before the awaited government decision about the ski zone and only a quick intervention by the competent authorities could dispel the doubts about this decision being predetermined.
Nature conservationists have been accused that they are the reason for ski lift queues. ‘we will take adequate personal measures against’ nature conservationists as ‘we are the most financially affected party in this whole situation’.
Commenting on what measures they could take, the person said: ‘What measures? Measures you do not even expect. Think of this as a warning.’
The person added that nature conservationists are ‘pathetic, helpless individuals who hide away like cockroaches’ behind the organisations they work for.
The caller added that ‘that wretch Toma Belev, I know all of you, we know all of you’.
One conversation finished with ‘See you later, my boy. Be careful what you do from now on.’
The caller’s voice is even, calm with a slight accent and slow pronunciation, typical for older people.
