The start is at 10 o’clock from the Municipality along the route Burgas Municipality – Hristo Botev Boulevard – Trapezitsa – Struga Boulevard – Stefan Stambolov Boulevard to the circle by Mirage hotel – Stefan Stambolov Boulevard – Democracy Boulevard – Adam Mitskevitsh Street – final in front of the Pantheon. The organizers from the biker enthusiasts club in Burgas will present the awards from the campaign Riding a Bike to Work to Burgas winners.
In the meantime, the first stage of the counting of the bike traffic in the capital has ended. According to preliminary data from 21 junctures inside the wide city center, the increase of bikers from 2012 is two to three times. The traffic through the busy junctures reaches 500 bikers during a holiday and 570 bikers in working days. The traffic in peak hours is generated by the existing bike lanes. In the other counting cites without biker lanes, the bikers have doubled and have become a considerable chunk in the city traffic. This means not only that biking infrastructure has become insufficient and its construction late. The promised 60 kilometers of bicycle lanes for this year will prove narrow. There is an urgent need for making safe key junctures in the city. New safe bike parking spots are needed as well.
Motivated by these results, Veloevolution decided to challenge the biking community of the capital with the screening of the Czech activist movie Auto*Mat in the last May evening. Hoping for more inspiration in the joint work with Sofia Municipality, Veloevolution summons people to expect next seasonal counting and the forthcoming weekly bike trainings for safe bike riding in the city.
