These weeks millions of migrating birds will leave Europe, heading for their wintering places in Africa. To the migrating species of birds the existence of appropriate nesting territories in the North, resting places and safe passing along the migrating routes, as well as appropriate habitats in the wintering places are of vital importance. The purpose of the European days of the birds 2015 is to tell about the wonders of the birds’ migration and about the necessities of the migratory birds in the reproduction zones, along the migratory routes and in the wintering regions in Europe and Africa.
37 partner organizations, part of the network of BirdLife International in Europe and Central Asia, will join in the initiative. Hundreds of events are being planned.
Like every year BirdLife International will keep statistics about the number of people, who will join in the different initiatives in Europe and Asia and about the species and number of birds, which they have observed. Last year 38 countries in Europe and Central Asia participated in the organizing of 1 184 events, with more than 33 000 people. And when it comes to the birds, the numbers are even more imposing: almost 7,5 million birds have been counted last year, the highest number in the history of the event!

The “Sofia” Zoo between 11:00 and 16:00 (only the entrance from Hladilnika is open for visitors)
11:00 Official opening of the holiday with the meeting of a new zoo inhabitant – the little креслив eagle. As the eagle doesn’t have a name yet we are expecting him to be named by the smallest bird lovers at the event. (in front of sector “Birds”)
11:30 – 14:00 Amusing games for children and their parents, friends of the little креслив eagle. (in front of sector “Birds”)
12:30 – 13:00 The Miracle of migration. The incredible journeys of the Egyptian vulture – a tale for children and adults. (Ecological center of the zoo)
13:00 – 13:30 Where do the red-necked geese spend the winter? – film show (Ecological center of the zoo); (in front of the Ecological center of the zoo)
13:30 – 16:00 More stories about the migration of the endangered birds; games for children and adults for acquaintance with the life of the Egyptian vulture, the red-neck goose and other migratory birds; drawing of favourite migratory birds. (in front of the Ecological center of the zoo)
The event at the capital’s zoo is organized with the partnership of the Ecological center of the zoo.

Feast for children and adults, where your children will be able to get acquainted with the sounds, which different birds give out, to make a chicken from threads or to buy a feedbox with which to feed the wild birds during the winter.
