Two weeks to the end of “TREE WITH A ROOT 2015”

After conclusion of the nomination phase, external expert jury will choose 10 finalists, contenders for the title “Tree with a root 2015” and three finalists in the category “Century-old trees speak”. The jury will determine also the winners in the additional categories “Young nature-lover” and the special category for volunteers-afforesters.

The finalists of “Tree with a root 2015” and “Century-old trees speak” will take part in on-line voting, which will take place in November on the site of Foundation “EcoCommunity” and will determine the winners. The winner of the title “Tree with a root 2015” is going to represent Bulgaria at the international contest “European tree of the year 2016” (www.treeoftheyear.org) which will take place next year. The tree will receive also special care for improvement of its condition if it needs such care.

The contest “Tree with a root” is open for participation to everyone – children, adults, teachers, students, even institutions, firms, organizations or just informal groups of people. The conditions, which the nominations for the contest need to satisfy can be found on the site of Foundation “EcoCommunity”. And on the page Contest “Tree with a root” in Facebook we publish all nominations, which participate in the contest.

Up to now 22 trees from the whole country have joined in “Tree with a root 2015”, and 11 of them are century-old. Among the contenders for the title up to this moment are Levski’s Mulberry, which with its 650 years is the oldest tree in Sofia, the Sycamore of Zlata from Petkovo village, region Smolyan, the Sycamore of park “Bedechka” in Stara Zagora and other trees with remarkable stories.
