A second project by the Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds receives recognition by the European Commission
This recognition is very important for the BSPB and all the partners of the project, as well as for nature conservation in Bulgaria in general. This year the EC acknowledged a total of 28 projects, and three of them are realized in Bulgaria by the BSPB, WWF and Green Balkans. The best of the best are still to be chosen among those 28, so Life for the Burgas Lakes project has the chances to become the second BSPB project to earn such recognition after Conservation of Imperial Eagle and Saker Falcon in Key Natura 2000 Sites in Bulgaria was announced best of the best project for 2014.

The awards will be delivered on May 31st in Brussels during the European Green Week. In celebration of the Green Week (May 30th to June 3rd) the European Commission will organize a series of conferences focusing on this year’s topic Investing for a Greener Future.

This will be the 11th edition of the annual award ceremony of the European Commission, aimed at recognizing the most successful nature conservation and environment protection projects funded by LIFE Programme, the financial instrument of the EU for nature conservation. The criteria for the selection of the best projects include: assessment of the project’s contribution to nature conservation in both short and long terms; social-economic impact of the project; innovation and sustainability; implementation of European policies; and efficient financing.
