Renowned actors called for protection of Bulgarian nature
On the occasion of Bulgarian Culture and Literacy Day, May 24th, men and women of letters sent a call for protection of country’s nature. Leonid Yovchev, who on Tuesday evening received his second Askeer for his leading part, Valeri Yordanov, Kristina Yaneva, Deyan Donkov and Elena Telbis shared an emotional message in support of nature protection.
“There are people, who care about the Earth and for the nature, and there are people, who are vandals and do not care,” the actors say in the video message.

The coalition of non-governmental organisations and civil groups “Let Nature Remain in Bulgaria” avails itself of the opportunity and congratulates on this holiday, May 24th, wishing there were more people, who use the word to say the truth and from their heart.

We remind that the alpinist Boyan Petrov, who during the holidays climbed his seven eight-thousander – Makalu, sent a video message from the Himalayas for the protection of Bulgarian nature and Pirin National Park, a part of UNESCO World Natural Heritage and of Natura 2000 nature network:

Meanwhile, the project, in which four of the organizations of the coalition “Let Nature Remain in Bulgaria” participate, received recognition from the EU Commission with the award Natura 2000 in the category “Social-Economic Benefits”. Bulgarian nature protection project “For the Balkan and for the People”, which is implemented by WWF, Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds, Bulgarian Biodiversity Foundation, Parks Association in Bulgaria, and four Swiss organisations received the award from EU Environment Commissioner Karmenu Vella.

The project operates in nine zones of Natura 2000 network in Western and Central Stara Planina (Balkan Mountain), where farmers and small enterprises have a direct interest in long-term preservation of natural resources. The initiative demonstrated how local development and preservation of nature can cohabitate without conflict and to contribute to the increase of income and the quality of life in rural regions of Bulgaria.
