A report for Bulgaria for the implementation of the EU policies in the environmental sphere determines the construction in the protected areas as a threat for the biodiversity of Bulgaria
You can read the report on: http://ec.europa.eu/environment/eir/pdf/report_bg_bg.pdf
“The main risks for the biodiversity in Bulgaria are connected with the loss of land and water habitats – mostly as a result of the rapid development of the cities and the infrastructure during the last 15 years (including within protected areas under NATURA2000), with the increased rates of air, water and soil pollution, as well as extreme exploitation of the species of economic importance.” – is said in the report.

The weaknesses in this area include bad implementation of the nature conservation legislation and the other orders for conservation of environment, insufficient integration of the policy in the sphere of nature and biodiversity with other sectoral policies, the inefficient management and administration of the protected areas, the poor administration, the lack of proper management plans, nature conservation goals and measures, insufficient funding or inefficient absorption of the available sources (that is the funding not always is aimed at the priority spheres) and the lack of law enforcement.” – report the experts.

The quality of the atmosphere air continues to arouse serious concerns – is among the main conclusions of the analysis.
As main challenges before our country have been determined:

- Ensuring of better protection of the health of people through implementation of effective and efficient solutions for reducing the air pollution.

- Ensuring and accomplishing of the investments necessary for the proper collection and filtration of the city wastewater.
- Ensuring of responsible implementation of the legislation for nature conservation.
