Press conference about Rila on 5 June 2008 in Sofia Press Agency

On 5 June 2008, in Sofia Press Agency a press conference will be carried out by the non-governmental organizations Eco-Rila, Citizens for Rila and Green Balkans Federation.

The European Commission will be appealed to fulfill its engagements and undertake timely measures to protect the priority bird species in Rila (according to the Bird Directive), whose habitat territories were excluded from NATURA 2000 network by the Bulgarian government.

A complaint concerning this problem was submitted in September 2007, but the Commission had not yet officially reacted.

The beginning of a campaign for the enlargement of the borders of Rila National Park will be announced.
