WWF insists the government protects the old-growth forests
The leading international nature conservation organization WWF has proposed a stop to the felling in the established old-growth forest regions until there are concrete plans for their preservation in place. In an official letter to the Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Foods, Georgi Kostov, along with the distribution of copies to the directors of the state-owned enterprises and the rector of the University of Forestry, sent on January 15, 2016, the organization has called for the priority protection of around 21 000 hectares of old-growth forests. The “Green Peace” European campaign for ecological agriculture is already giving “fruits”: Aldi Sud puts a ban on dangerous for the bees pesticides
The European commercial chains have to follow the example of their German colleagues

Aldi Sud is the first large commercial chain in Europe, which banned 8 dangerous for the bees pesticides from the local growing of fruits and vegetables, produced for the local market. On the 1st of January, the German company introduced a requirement for the suppliers to gradually exclude the pesticides, which are most harmful to the bees, including some from the neonicotinoides group. The company writes this in a letter to the office of “Green Peace” in Germany. The ecological organization insists the supermarkets to gradually stop the use of dangerous pesticides in the growing of fruits and vegetables and to support the producers in the practice of ecological agriculture, which doesn’t harm the environment.
The European court pronounced for Bulgaria: The Government causes damages on environment
Bulgaria was sentenced by the European court for failure to meet the obligation for protection of the environment and for placing of endangered species at risk. The reason is that the Bulgarian government did not undertake the necessary measures to protect the NATURA 2000 areas within the region of Kaliakra, which allowed a large number of investment intentions to be implemented.
Our birds around the world
“GREEN BALKANS' Federation

During the Christmas and New Year’s Eve holidays, everyone thinks fondly about their close friends and relatives that are away for one reason or another. We, the ,,Green Balkans’’ team, have a reason to think about some others as well – the various rare and protected species of birds that we’ve tagged with transmitters and follow their movement throughout the world. Every day we look forward to the exact hour, in which the devices transmit the information about the coordinates and transitory position of the birds. When the holidays arrive, we think (quite humanly, not as experts) about the birds – where’s BDS the kestrel at this exact moment, or Belcho the stork…and what about Father Gregory the vulture?

LADIES AND GENTLEMEN,
The coalition "For the Nature in Bulgaria" anxiously monitors the status of bulgarian forests and their "governance". Just for two months on the territory of the Nature Park "Vitosha" - at the very outskirts of the capital city, two cases were found in which all state organisations and structures of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food responsible for forest conservation, are apparently trying to cover violations affecting dozens of acres. Attempts are also made to conceal acts which could be regarded as crimes, such as illegal logging and the destruction of the protected area by not promptly notifying the prosecution in order to cover their tracks and guilty persons.
The European Environment Ministers have promised to support Natura 2000
WWF welcomes the European commission’s proposals that were accepted during EU’s Biodiversity Strategy mid-term review, which only highlight the need for full implementation of the Birds and Habitats directives – Natura 2000. We urge the EU member-states to fulfil their political commitments and take concrete measures for the reduction of biodiversity loss, mostly caused by intensive farming, overconsumption and WPP development.

Fish produced in sustainable way is preferred by 85% of Bulgarians, the results of a poll among 7,500 people in 11 European countries and ordered by WWF show.
