Urgent measures are needed to limit cutting in the few remained reserved centuries-old forests. Studies of experts from the Bulgarian Biodiversity Foundation found that without urgent measures the three-toed woodpecker could disappear within a decade from Bulgaria. It is assumed that its total number does not exceed a hundred nesting pairs.
