“Living up to the challenges of the melting snow cover, the golden age of
the ski resorts will soon end and we would have to come up with more
creative ideas for how to make use of the mountainous regions during the
winter. Several directions have already formed”.

The European Commission may bring to an end the trade with illegal timber
WWF calls for effective implementation of Regulation 995 of the EU concerning timber, which will help to curb illegal logging.

WWF supports the report published on 18 January by the European Commission, according to which two and a half years after entry into force of Regulation 995 of the EU concerning timber is not effectively implemented in most European Union countries. According to the report, the problem is that certain categories of wood products, such as printed materials, chairs and musical instruments are not covered by the regulation.
With legumes against the global warming and what are the natural alternatives to meat?
In the fourth “With legumes against global warming” course of For the Earth’s Cooking schools, we learnt how legumes, as a complete and healthy alternative to meat, can help us significantly reduce our ecological waste. There’s one more reason for dedicating a whole course to them – 2016 was announced by United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organization as the year of the legumes.

Concerned citizens have sharply expressed their opinion against the construction in Pirin, Rila and Vitosha as they interrupted a meeting for the mountain (ski, to be precise) tourism development in Bulgaria

During the workshop between the large ski businesses and the ministers of sport and tourism, several concerned citizens sharply expressed their stance against the construction work in the Rila and Pirin national parks and the Vitosha nature park. The event was announced as a mountain tourism meeting, but when the program was released, it became clear that ski tourism will be the only topic for discussion. We shouldn’t allow the offshore interests to continue the destruction of Bulgarian protected nature under the spacious eye of the government, which has to protect it for all of us.
Pirin is about to be destroyed! Let’s save it!

The ruling parties have once again proved to be highly dependent on the oligarchic interests! It seems like they have no intention of respecting any rules or laws, neither do they have any intention whatsoever to consider all of us, who want to protect our nature! Their actions have taken things too far! The council of the political parties has once again discussed the Pirin topic and they’ll probably suggest the approval of the changes in the concession contract to the government in order to legalize the violations around Bansko and continue the construction work in the mountain. Will the government take the side of the mafia or the side of its own people, who’ve expressed their clear stance on the future of Pirin over and over again?
Bulgaria’s final document does not include policies on climate change as criteria for using European funds

On January 6, the Bulgarian Council of Ministers approved “Guidelines for the integration of the the environmental and climate change policies in European structural and investment funds – Phase Implementation of the partnership agreement and programmes for 2014-2020”. We compared this document with the draft from August 2015 – for which we, Zeleni Zakoni (“Green Laws”), released a statement and held a work meeting – and found no difference. This means the respective directorates from the government and the Ministry of Environment and Water (MOSV) have not adopted our proposals for it. What is more alarming, however, is that the final document does not in any way take into account the EU Commission’s requirement that 20% of the funds for all Operational Programmes (OP) for 2014-2020 should go to the financing for measures regarding climate change.
