Cycle-in Film Screening to Mark the End of Bike2Work Month

The most diligent cyclists from the most bike friendly cities and the most united teams in the rankings of www.bike2work.be ’s campaign “Bike to Work” will be recognized and celebrated with a short ceremony and an open-air cycle-in film screening on May 31.
VIIth International Counting of White Stork Starts in June
This is one of nature protection biggest initiatives globally, which is conducted with the participation of citizens by the model citizen science

Once every 10 years, International Counting of White Stork is organized globally. This summer the 7th edition of the initiative will take place, organized in Bulgaria by Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds (BSPB).

The counting will take place June 15 through July 15 2015, and will encompass the whole country or a total of 5 000 towns and villages. With the help of volunteers, all stork nests will be accounted for and the adult birds and their little ones will be counted. Information about the location of the nests which for some reason have been left vacant this year will be gathered, and the endangered nests will be marked to be made safe with the assistance of the corresponding institutions.

Volen hatched in May 2013 in a nest in Sredna Gora Mountain. In June 2013 experts from the Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds tagged him with a GPS transmitter to collect data about the trajectory of his wanderings. Due to deteriorated health Volen was kept in the Wildlife Rescue Centre in Stara Zagora for six months; he was released back into the wild on March 4, 2014 at Kamenski Bair, Sliven Municipality. In recent months he wandered across Romania and Moldova, eventually reaching as far as Kiev, Ukraine; several days ago he returned to Bulgaria where he became the victim of a road accident.

Oak that grows in the middle of a football field in Estonia was officially named the European Tree of the Year 2015. At the ceremony, held on April 20 this year in Brussels, Heikki Hansen, who nominated the tree, received the award from Stefan Stefanov, representative of the last year's winner in the Competition - the old elm of Sliven, Bulgaria
Fourth Edition of the “Bike and Run for Chepan” Competition near Dragoman on April 25th
The annual competition "Bike and Run for Chepan" will be held on 25 April 2015, as the traditional opening event of the forum for sustainable tourism, responsible business and green ideas "Green Days" (21 to 24 May 2015). Organizers are BAAT, shops "Stenata" and Adventura.bg in partnership with the Dragoman municipality. For the second time the format of the competition, along with mountain biking route, will include some running with a new discipline introduced for the first time this year, Marathon 42 sq. for the runners. Over 290 cyclists and runners in participated in 2014, and this year nearly 400 people are expected to register for the racing program in its two parts. There are ni restrictions in the level of professional preparedness of the competitors. The only prerequisite for participation is for adolescents to present a pre-filled statement from a parent.

Since a week the public attention is focused onthe case of “Coral”,which turned into a metaphor of degraded Bulgaria. Again Black Sea is being blatantly destroyed and the concrete has reached the waves! The state is trying to neglect the problem; the illegalities are being silenced, entangled in irresponsibility. Even without going over and over again in a series of paper-work details, the facts outline clearly: local authorities in Tsarevo city, Mr. Lapchev and chief architects in the municipality proceed with illegal construction decisions since years, with severe violation of laws and regulations, connected to the problem.

Zelenika flower (Rhododendron ponticum) - the symbol of Strandzha Mountain was widespread all the way to the warm and humid tertiary climate of North, even to Scandinavia – nowadays Sweden. Currently within Europe the Zelenika is found only in Strandzha Mountain.

The Directorate of Nature Park “Vrachanski Balkan” and the Nature Conservation Center “Natura” are inviting their little friends and their parents to children workshop and film screening which are held every Sunday.

The initiative starts this Sunday, April 19th , from 10:00 to 12:00 at Nature Conservation Center “Natura”.
