“Restore life in rivers” – this was said to the media by the Minister of Environment and Water Ivelina Vasileva, after on 12th February she opened a two-day working meeting on updating of the River Basin Management Plans. The meeting itself was organized by a joint initiative of the Ministry of Environment and Water and “Transparent mountains” initiative and WWF Danube Carpathean Programme. The meeting was unique because for the first time it gathered officials of all River Basin Directorates, the MOEW department on water management, a great number of civil and environmental organizations, fishermen clubs, kayak and rafting clubs, representatives of the academics and BSA, citizens. The topic was the rivers and their fate.

On 17th February 2015 the “Transparent Mountains” Initiative submitted to the Ministry of Agriculture and Foods over 11 500 signatures, collected together with Initiative Committee, town of Shipka and the Green, for the purpose of undertaking long-term decisions for protection of the forests of cutting off and the sustainable usage of the forest resources.

The Coalition from NGOs and civil groups “Let nature remains in Bulgaria”was informed by the District Prosecutor`s Office in Blagoevgrad for the current results from the investigation of signals for violation in Bansko ski zone, in National Park Pirin.
The investigation runs parallel to the verification of a working group at the Council of Ministers on the implementation of the concession. As a result of the investigation so far were established a number of facilities that were built without coordinating documents under the Environmental Protection Act and Water Act, or used without permits.

The coalition “Let nature remains in Bulgaria” declared a preliminary position on the work of the interdepartmental working group, established by Decision №5 from 08.01.2015 the Council of Ministers. Commission should analyze the problems with the implementation of the concession agreement for the Bansko Ski Zone in National Park "Pirin" and to propose possible solutions. The deadline of the group`s work is 15 of February 2015.

On a press-conference today the Coalition of non-governmental organizations and civil groups “Let Nature Remain in Bulgaria” explained that the several ministers' support to the Municipality of Bansko for second gondola lift and ski tracks in National Park Pirin absolutely contravenes the Bulgarian and European law as well as the UNESCO's recommendations. What is more, their point of view is that the second gondola does not solve the problems of the ski tourism in Bansko, however, there are another better alternatives.

“Za Zemiata” (For the Earth) Environmental Association and “Solidarna Bulgaria” Association (Solidary Bulgaria) reported that 152 civil society organizations across Europe, including several Bulgarian, have come out with a joint statement [1"> regarding one of the most controversial aspects of the trade agreement between the EU and the USA (TTIP) – regulatory cooperation. Organizations are strongly “against” the stand taken during the TTIP negotiations in regard to the regulation of crucial areas such as chemicals, food standards, and public services within health and safety.

NRA admits a delay and gives unsatisfactory answers regarding 12 of the 20 planned measures.

On February 2 the team of “Green Laws” presented a letter to the Ministry of Environment and Water and to the Council of Ministers, clarifying for the institutions why the Management Plan of Pirin National Park that is being prepared at the moment violates environmental law in Bulgaria. You can read the letter in the attached document. We recommend to the Ministry in charge, as a Contracting Authority of the project financing the making of the Plan for Management of Pirin NP, to suspend temporarily its execution and to request from the Director of Pirin NP Directorate to present the required documentation of conducting of analysis of the need for environmental impact assessment and check for admissibility and assessment of the probable degree of negative impact on the protected zones.
