Political dismissal in Bulgarka Nature Park in the Central Stara Planina

Coalition of NGOs and civil groups "Let Nature Remain In Bulgaria" protests against the dismiss of Maya Radeva, director of Bulgarka Nature Park. This happens a week after Radeva alert in Forestry Agency for financial abuse of her deputy Ali Aliev. During her three month hospital period he was running the nature park. Aliev is the leader of DPS political party in Sevlievo and a councilor. He also has a company in the field of wood industry that is a violation of the Administration Act.
The shelter at Vratzata is renovated
During last week Directorate of NaturePark “Vrachanski Balkan” at Executive Forest Agency performed partial repair of the Alpine shelter in Vratzata. During the renovation broken dormers and windows were removed and wooden benches and tables for relaxation were installed.
Gold Extraction Decision Revoked
Supreme Administrative Court (SAC) has made a final revocation of Council of Ministers’ decision from October 7, 2011, and with this annuls the concession for extraction of gold-silver ores at Dikanite deposit in Vakarelei section on the land of Radomir area villages Gorna Dikanya and Dolna Dikanya, Pernik region.
Looking for volunteers to guard the nests of Egyptian vulture in the project 'Support for the Egyptian vulture'
For the third year under the LIFE + project "Support for the Egyptian Vulture" protection of over 10 nests of the endangered species in Bulgaria is performed. Experience shows that the period around the first flight of the little vultures is especially critical as still young and inexperienced little ones may fall out of the nest and die. In order to protect the small Egyptian vultures of such destiny, we are searching for volunteers for the Eastern Rhodopes to monitor nests during this critical period for birds. We rely on your support!
Region: Haskovo region and Kardzhali region
Period: Jul 15th - August 15th, 2014.
Conditions: Covering of travel and overhead expenses. Spending the night in a camp or lodging (if available).

Uncovered illegal trafficking in killed world endangered vultures aimed at voodoo magic in Africa
Illegal trafficking in Nigeria and Niger in killed world endangered Egyptian vultures aimed at voodoo magic was uncovered with the assistance of the partners under a LIFE+ project from Bulgaria and Greece and with the main cooperation of the partner organisations in Africa. The criminal scheme, in which traditional vulture hunters and traders participate, was exposed due to the bird Pashalis killed in Niger. The vulture was equipped with a satellite hook-up, which enabled the thwarting of the illegal scheme. The case is one of the many ones in the region between Nigeria and Niger where vultures and ravens are killed in large numbers for “magic” ceremonies and rituals.
APB organizes training for the advocacy by documents in Varna, June 27th
Association of Parks in Bulgaria (APB) organizes training for the use of documents for advocacy for the environment and use of the Archive of nature - http://www.ekoarhiv.bg/. Toma Belev and Stefan Avramov will be the instructors.
The training in Varna will be held on June 27th from 13.30 to 16.00 for activists and all stakeholders from North Bulgaria. Training for NGOs, citizens and civil servants from South Bulgaria will be held in Sofia in July.
Bulgarian Biodiversity Foundation donated books for Southwest Bulgaria’s nature
Bulgarian Biodiversity Foundation joined the initiative “Give a book, become a cultural donor” of Blagoevgrad municipality and provided books for Southwest Bulgaria’s nature – “At the edge of the cliff – home of wild goats”, “Belasitza”- a tourist guide, “Belasitza’s interesting plants” and “Biodiversity of National Park “Pirin”. Readers will have the opportunity to learn interesting facts about wildlife that surrounds them in the summer library hold outdoors in front of “September 22”Hall in the center of Blagoevgrad.
„Greenpeace“ stops oil platform of “Gazprom” from  leaving a port in Netherlands on the way to the Arctic
Earlier today, a group of activists of the "Greenpeace" Netherlands protested peacefully to stop the latest attempt by the energy giant "Gazprom" to extract oil in the Arctic. 30 volunteers occupied oil platform "GSP Saturn" while underwater divers tied with chains pillars of the platform. This actually makes impossible the movement of the platform to Pechora Sea, where to be performed the oil extraction, as "Gazprom" intends.
More than 600 MP candidates for European Parliament have pledged support for the Environment
Member States took part in WWF campaign, thus engaging with environment protection. The candidates, representatives of green parties and members of European Green Party, were most active, representing one third of the participants.
Bulgarian candidates for European elections 2014 also took part in the campaign of the environment protection organization. So far, 18 politicians from six parties and one independent candidate have supported environment protection priorities.

A roundtable on the challenges to sustainable development in tourism, conservation of natural, cultural and historic heritage was held on May 10th, 2014, at the International Business School of Sofia’s Center for Remote Learning, with the support of the Bulgarian Chamber of Tourism. The meeting’s aim was to explore points of intersection and to develop, via an expert panel, a common agreement and plan for joint action in developing tourism in harmony with natural and cultural preservation.
